A modern day story about the pursuit of fortune in the oil rig world of West Texas. A landman, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a go-between between exploration companies and landowners. The landman’s job is usually to negotiate and finalize agreements with landowners with mineral rights to lease those rights to the company they represent. They essentially manage the land and secure leases so they can extract oil and gas. As foremen on the construction site, they build roads, housing for workers (camps), oversee the assembly of excavation machinery, and drill the job site itself, especially in remote locations. They are also repairmen, problem solvers, and leaders. Featured on CBS News Sunday Morning: Episode #44.24 (2022). This would easily be an 8.5 – 9. If it weren’t for the creepy and oh-so-sexualized daughter & ex-wife/mother. They serve no plot purpose and are just annoying and offensive to the women of West Texas. As a man from far West Texas, I understand where Sheridan is coming from in a way, but this is awful. West Texas women are the strongest and most ambitious women I know. Plus, the writing and acting are great. Sheridan could easily have another Yellowstone on her hands if she can get rid of the very annoying inter-family feud. But on the other hand, I do enjoy some of Sheridan’s writing (and acting) and it’s an absolutely very enjoyable series for the most part.
